On-Site role

Job Description:

  • Our team builds and supports the sensor emulation and test infrastructure that client engineering relies on to validate autonomy hardware and software.
  • As a Lab Technician, you will build and maintain that physical infrastructure, designing and kitting wiring harnesses, racking and wiring server infrastructure, and assembling hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches used to validate automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and autonomy hardware and systems.
  • You will own harness designs end-to-end with guidance from our design engineers, and you will own the lab itself: how it is stocked, organized, and kept running.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build wiring harnesses for HIL test benches and rack builds, translate schematics into pinout diagrams, select connectors, wire gauge, and shielding for signal integrity and durability, then cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and test each harness for continuity, shorts, and correct pinout before installation.
  • Rack, stack, and wire test assets - Install compute nodes, network switches, and power units in racks following layout diagrams. Run and organize power and data cables, labeling everything for easy tracking.
  • Own day-to-day lab operations, kit and stage parts ahead of builds, maintain inventory of connectors, wire, rack hardware, and consumables, reorder stock before it runs out, track asset tags and serial numbers, keep benches and kitting stations organized and tools calibrated, and enforce ESD and electrical safety practices in the space.
  • Troubleshoot hardware faults, diagnose and resolve bad cables, failed PSUs, and loose connections; partner with test and validation engineers to reproduce issues found in CI or manual test runs, and escalate complex failures with clear findings.
  • Keep build documentation current, maintain pinout tables, BOMs, wiring diagrams, rack elevations, and build docs, including revision history and known issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years hands-on in a lab, bench technician, or data center hardware role, plus an associate's degree or vocational/technical certification in electronics or electromechanical technology (equivalent hands-on experience considered in lieu of the credential).
  • Demonstrated wiring harness design and build experience: creating and reading wiring diagrams and pinout tables, selecting connectors and wire gauge, and crimping/terminating automotive-grade connectors (Molex, Amphenol, Rosenberger, or similar), including backshell assembly and strain relief.
  • Experience racking and cabling servers and network equipment - structured cabling, cable management, and power distribution - working independently from rack elevation drawings.
  • Track record of running or maintaining a lab, test floor, or hardware stockroom: kitting builds, managing consumable and parts inventory, and keeping a shared space organized without day-to-day direction.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, crimpers, and bench equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies); working knowledge of AC/DC electrical safety and ESD handling. Able to lift and move rack equipment up to 50 lbs.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with automotive ECUs, embedded systems, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches.
  • Board-level SMT rework down to 0402 (occasionally 0201) and BGA rework.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or equivalent training in harness workmanship standards.
  • Harness design/CAD tools, 3D CAD in SolidWorks or 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) CATIA, and PLM in 3DX.
  • Comfort with the Linux command line for basic host verification (ping, SSH, checking service status) and scripting basics (Python/Bash) for running simple bring-up or test scripts.
