Title: SAP EHS Specialist

Job Description:

  • The EH&S Specialist coordinates environmental health and safety policies, completes workplace and equipment inspections and implements safety programs. As well as tracks and reports on the environmental compliance activities for a large industrial manufacturing lab. Develops and maintains databases, documentation, calendars, and reports of regulated lab activities including permits, certifications, inspections, and enforcement events while promoting a proactive environmental and safety compliance culture.

Major duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares reports, maintains files, and communicates the data associated with local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines for the lab including those set forth by EPA, State EPA’s, C and other state and local environmental regulatory agencies. Supports compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws.
  • Provides documentation management to regulatory agencies regarding permits, inspections, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains general knowledge of fire protection systems and associated general regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Acquires approval for environmental compliance related payables and tracks invoices & check requests.
  • Manages Water Discharge Monitoring Reports.
  • Maintains general knowledge of SPCC plans and Storm water management plans.
  • Maintains familiarity with the Clean Air Act. · Maintains familiarity with RCRA requirements.
  • Maintains general understanding of Environmental Management Systems.
  • Maintains document files pertaining to audits & observations of workforce performance.
  • Thoroughly observes documents such as reports, permits, & inspection forms, detects potential environmental compliance problems of an accounting, bookkeeping, and clerical nature.
  • Facilitates, arranges and conducts environmental related training and orientation.
  • Tracks information on energy and resource-efficient projects & programs. May include energy conservation programs and future LEED certifications. · Provides recommendations for changes in environmental policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Safety team to support injury prevention programs. Analyzes injury reports to identify trends and provides recommendations and development support of programs or enhancements to reduce incident rates.
  • Prepares all necessary forms, records and documentation, to include statistical analyses and reports, for all claims assigned, as required by various regulatory agencies including the DWC 1, OSHA 300 log and summary.
  • Develops safety training, policy and procedural revisions.

Basic Qualification:

  • Associates degree or equivalent relevant business experience 
  • 1+ year(s) experience in a safety or environmental team role.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Ability to develop and maintain databases of permits and reports required for a large number of facilities
  • Ability to investigate and analyze claims information and to draw conclusions
  • Above average computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, prioritize tasks, and manage time and regulatory deadlines effectively with minimal supervision and direction
  • Ability to effectively work with all levels of the organization and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent organization, communication (oral & written), and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in an open office environment

Preferred Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: bioscience; earth sciences; ecology; energy; environmental engineering; environmental health; environmental sciences or management; engineering with a sustainability focus ·
  • CHMM · 2+ years experience in administering environmental or similar programs
  • Ability to use web-based applications
