Job Description:
- The Validation Engineer for Electro-Mechanical Prototypes acts as the critical bridge between design engineering and the other departments, ensuring that early hardware designs perform reliably under real-world conditions.
- This role focuses on stressing, breaking, and analyzing prototype systems to expose design flaws before delivering to the client.
Core Responsibilities:
- Test Strategy & Execution: Develop, write, and execute comprehensive test plans, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for early-stage electro-mechanical testing and validation. For this scope, interact with the design engineers to define the validation requirements.
- Fixture Design: Design and build custom mechanical test fixtures and electrical harnesses required to securely interface with and manipulate prototypes.
- Reliability & Environmental Testing: Conduct structural and functional testing.
- Data Acquisition & Analysis: Set up Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems with sensors (e.g., temperature, voltage, strain, torque, acoustics) and analyse data.
- Root Cause Analysis: Tear down failed prototypes to identify the root causes of mechanical, electrical or functional problems.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure prototypes are tested against relevant industry safety and performance standards (e.g., UL, CE, ISO, MIL-STD).
- Test setup management: Ensure to have all the parts and the info necessary to perform the validation. For this, interact with design engineers, purchase, logistic, quality and TPM to be able to perform the test as planned.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: BS or MS in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a heavily related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years in hardware testing, reliability engineering, or validation of complex electro-mechanical products (e.g., robotics, medical devices, automotive, consumer electronics).
- Hardware Competency: Hands-on expertise with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, load cells, and basic soldering/rework tools.
- Software & CAD: Proficiency in 3D CAD (Catia is preferred) for fixture design, and scripting languages (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or C++) for test automation and data parsing.
- Analytical Skills: Strong foundation in statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments (DoE), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working directly in a rapid prototyping shop environment (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting).
- Knowledge of specific subsystem validation, such as BLDC motor control systems, optical sensors, or pneumatic actuators.
- Familiarity with regulatory submission documentation for highly regulated industries (like IATF 16949 for automotive industry).
