Job Description:

  • Work Schedule:  5-8hr days or the Flex-9 schedule.
  • This position is responsible for creating designs in AutoCAD 2D for the Client’s Transmission and Distribution electrical Substations and supporting Client’s design criteria, standardization efforts, and FAC-008 compliance efforts.
  • The Drafter will produce engineering drawings using AutoCAD 2D and produce specifications and material requirements for substation projects with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs.
  • To further detail, the job responsibilities include the creation/modification of scaled 2D drawings designing the physical aspects of electrical substations, including but not limited to:
  • Foundation Layouts.
  • Grounding Layouts.
  • Conduit Layouts.
  • Switchgear Assembly Layouts.
  • Control Buildings.
  • Electrical Bus Design.
  • Etc.
  • The Drafter will transmit drawing packages and supporting specifications using the Transmission Engineering job transmittal program.
  • The Drafter will coordinate and communicate with engineers and other departments associated with electrical Substation Design.
  • The Drafter must provide support to the OPCO’s Substation Construction, Field Services, Project Management and Substation Maintenance departments.
  • This position may require some site visits for projects.

Job Qualifications:
Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering -OR-
  • 4-year Engineering Technology degree -OR-
  • 2-year technical degree with at least 5 years of related industry experience -OR-
  • High school diploma with significant related industry experience of at least 8 years.

Experience:

  • Strong understanding of substation equipment is preferred.
  • Experience in Transmission &/or Distribution Substation Operations for an electric power utility company is preferred.
  • Good understanding of utility electric grid operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical power system theory is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, and OSHA safe operating practices is preferred.
  • Ability to create Substation Physical Design drawings from a single line diagram is preferred.
  • Ability to create/manipulate 2D Substation Physical Design drawings.
  • AutoCAD training, experience, or certification is preferred.
  • Experience working with document management & estimating systems such as:
  • Transmission Estimating and Management System (TEAMS)
  • STOMP
  • MAXIMO
  • SCST Vault
  • Autodesk Vault Professional 2023
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products is required.
