Position Summary:
The Process Engineer – Utilities & Water Treatment provides technical leadership for site utility and water systems, including steam generation, cooling, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and water reuse. This role optimizes system performance, improves reliability, supports safe and compliant operations, and leads process improvement from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
System Performance & Continuous Improvement

Lead process design, analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization for boilers, steam, cooling, chilled water, water treatment, wastewater, and water reuse systems.

Identify and execute debottlenecking opportunities to improve capacity, reliability, efficiency, and operating cost.

Analyze performance data, identify losses and failure modes, and implement corrective actions using structured methods such as DMAIC, root cause analysis, and standard work.
Controls, Documentation & Compliance

Develop and maintain control narratives, functional specifications, SOPs, P&IDs, operating procedures, alarms, interlocks, critical parameters, and operating limits.

Partner with automation, operations, maintenance, quality, and EHS teams to implement and optimize safe, reliable, and compliant control strategies.

Maintain documentation required for audits, inspections, regulatory compliance, and internal standards.
Projects, Commissioning & Reliability

Support capital projects through scope development, design reviews, equipment selection, FAT/SAT execution, commissioning, start-up, and performance verification.

Resolve process and equipment issues during implementation to achieve design capacity, reliability, quality, and compliance objectives.

Monitor utility KPIs including capacity, uptime, water usage, chemical usage, energy efficiency, and operating cost; support maintenance strategies that improve reliability.
Technical Leadership & Training

Serve as a subject matter expert for utility and water treatment systems.

Provide technical coaching, training, and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance teams.

Lead or support site improvement initiatives, standardization efforts, and cross-functional problem solving.
Qualifications:
Required Experience & Skills
-
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.

3–8+ years of experience in process engineering, utilities, water/wastewater treatment, food and beverage manufacturing, or industrial manufacturing.

Experience with process improvement, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and cross-functional technical projects.

Strong knowledge of water treatment, boiler and steam systems, cooling systems, heat transfer, chemical dosing, filtration, softening, reverse osmosis, wastewater treatment, and utility operations.

Experience with PLC/DCS-based control systems, alarms, interlocks, operating limits, P&IDs, control narratives, SOPs, and technical specifications.

Strong data analysis, root cause analysis, communication, project coordination, training, and stakeholder influence skills.
