Job Description:
- Our team is seeking a hands-on Firmware Validation Engineer to join the Firmware – Connectivity and Audio team.
- This is a validation-focused role centered on manual feature testing, expanding test coverage, root-causing defects, and triaging field issues across in-cabin connected experiences.
- The engineer will own day-to-day test execution and defect quality for Audio and Streaming feature tracks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual feature validation, including functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing for Audio and Streaming features on bench setups and in-vehicle systems.
- Develop and maintain test content by creating new test cases, enhancing existing test suites, and keeping documentation up to date.
- Identify coverage gaps, add missing test scenarios, and track overall coverage health across feature areas.
- Conduct root cause analysis by reproducing defects, collecting logs, and analyzing data using tools such as Wireshark, DLT, ADB, HCI/Bluetooth traces, and vehicle logs.
- Lead first-level triage of Audio and Streaming field issues by reproducing problems in the lab, narrowing scope, and collaborating with firmware and diagnostics teams to drive resolution.
- Manage the full defect lifecycle in JIRA, including documentation, severity assessment, fix verification, and regression validation.
- Maintain test benches, vehicle test rigs, and diagnostic environments to ensure release readiness.
- Work closely with firmware engineers, product managers, and integration teams to support feature readiness and prioritization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hands-on firmware validation, QA, or embedded systems testing experience.
- Strong experience creating and executing validation plans, developing test cases, closing coverage gaps, and managing defects through resolution.
- Hands-on validation experience in at least one connectivity domain, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE/5G, GNSS, or vehicle networking.
- Strong debugging and log analysis skills using tools such as Wireshark, DLT, ADB, and similar diagnostic tools.
- Experience reproducing and isolating issues reported from field or production environments.
- Working knowledge of Python scripting for automation and log parsing.
- Comfortable working in Linux/Ubuntu environments.
- Experience with JIRA, Confluence, and Agile development processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with in-cabin entertainment systems and media casting frameworks.
- Bluetooth stack validation experience, including Pairing, A2DP, HFP, AVRCP, and interoperability testing.
- Strong background in wireless connectivity technologies.
- Experience supporting autonomous vehicle, robotaxi, or fleet-based environments.
Supplier Call Notes / Key Hiring Priorities
- Looking for candidates with 8+ years of experience.
- Strong preference for candidates from companies such as Rivian or similar automotive/embedded organizations.
- Heavy emphasis on Bluetooth Audio validation and testing.
- Majority of the work involves manual testing and validation.
- Candidates should have experience creating and executing validation plans and test strategies.
- Embedded Linux experience is important.
- Python is required, but only for basic automation and log analysis; deep Python expertise is not necessary.
