On-Site role

Job Description:

  • Onsite in Foster City, CA | 5 days in office
  • The Fleet Support Engineer on the Vehicle Development team will be actively engaged in the operational uptime of our fleet, with a specific focus on Human Machine Interface (HMI) and passenger experience systems.
  • The ideal candidate will be a technical expert, adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams, meticulously documenting troubleshooting processes, and providing real-time support for daily operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary Escalation Point: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for real-time escalations regarding HMI systems, including passenger displays, audio/visual alerts, interior cameras, and cabin interaction modules.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct in-depth root cause analysis through comprehensive log review (Linux/Android logs) and electrical diagnosis to identify and resolve complex HMI hardware and software failures.
  • Trend Monitoring: Lead the sustaining engineering effort for HMI systems by conducting historical reviews of fleet data to identify failure trends (e.g., "Ghost Touch" issues, display blackouts, audio latency) and drive permanent corrective actions.
  • Documentation: Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive troubleshooting guides for HMI components to empower field technicians to solve issues independently.
  • Validation: Perform hardware bring-up and functional validation procedures for new HMI components and software firmware updates.
  • Tooling Improvement: Collaborate with the HMI and Software Engineering teams to enhance diagnostic tooling, making it easier to detect specific failure modes in the field.
  • Data Driven: Define and capture essential data points to validate issue resolution and measure the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Availability: Availability for night and weekend shifts as needed to support critical fleet operations.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally within the U.S. to support various operational locations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in automotive, consumer electronics, or autonomous vehicles, with a focus on infotainment, display technologies, or cockpit electronics.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience troubleshooting LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, and LIN communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with display technologies (LCD/OLED), touch controllers, and audio amplifiers.
  • Ability to comprehend schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector end views/pinouts to debug wiring vs. component failures.
  • System Knowledge: Understanding of hardware and software interaction (e.g., how the OS drives the display) to differentiate between SW bugs and HW failures.
  • Problem Solving: Embraces a holistic problem-solving approach to identifying issues with high-level vehicle functions and driving specific resolution into single components.
  • Soft Skills: Self-starter with the ability to build relationships across Engineering and Operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Android Automotive or Linux-based infotainment systems.
  • Experience with remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems and Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS).
  • Experience with Linux & Python-based programming for parsing large log files.
  • Familiarity with networking, TCP, and socket programming.
  • Experience with audio system tuning or debugging.
