Job Description:
- Client is pursuing Extended Power Uprate (EPU) projects for both Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) units. As part of these initiatives, the organization is developing Design Input Requests (DIRs) to supprt analyses performed by external Architect-Engineer (A/E) firms.
- The selected candidate will provide technical support throughout the EPU project lifecycle, including development and review of design inputs, evaluation of technical analyses, review and validation of A/E task reports, and support for owner acceptance activities.
- The role will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Operations, Design, Licensing, and Plant Modifications.
- The ideal candidate will have strong commercial nuclear power plant experience and a practical understanding of nuclear plant systems, engineering processes, operations, configuration management, and/or licensing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical engineering support for Extended Power Uprate (EPU) projects involving PWR and/or BWR nuclear generating units.
- Support the development and review of Design Input Requests (DIRs) and technical requirements for external engineering analyses.
- Review and evaluate technical analyses, calculations, design documents, and task reports prepared by Architect-Engineer firms.
- Support owner acceptance and validation of engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with plant requirements.
- Evaluate proposed engineering changes and modifications from a plant systems, operational, design, and licensing perspective.
- Apply knowledge of nuclear plant systems and system interactions to support EPU-related evaluations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Operations, Licensing, Design, and Plant Modifications.
- Support technical documentation, engineering reviews, design basis evaluations, and project-related communications.
- Identify technical issues, inconsistencies, or potential impacts associated with EPU implementation and assist in developing appropriate resolutions.
- Support project activities associated with plant configuration, procedures, regulatory requirements, and implementation of EPU modifications.
- 5+ years of experience in the commercial nuclear power industry.
- Strong understanding of nuclear power plant systems, operations, engineering, design, or licensing processes.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary nuclear environment.
- Ability to review and evaluate technical documentation, engineering analyses, calculations, or reports.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders and external engineering organizations.
- Candidates with experience in several of the following areas are highly desirable:
- Previous experience supporting Plant Hatch operations, engineering, design, licensing, or modification activities.
- Previous experience supporting Plant Vogtle Units 1 and 2 operations, engineering, design, licensing, or modification activities.
- Familiarity with Client Nuclear plant systems, procedures, configuration management, and engineering processes.
- Previous commercial nuclear plant operations experience.
- Experience with system operation, troubleshooting, procedure use, and plant response.
- Ability to evaluate engineering changes and modifications from an operational perspective.
- Understanding of how plant systems and operating conditions may be affected by power uprate activities.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, or approving:
- Engineering analyses
- Engineering calculations
- Design changes
- Design input documents
- Technical reports
- Design basis documentation
- Strong systems engineering background with an understanding of plant system interactions, performance, and operating conditions.
- Previous experience supporting power uprate projects, particularly in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Design Basis activities.
- Experience supporting nuclear licensing activities, regulatory evaluations, or NRC submittals.
- Understanding of licensing requirements and regulatory impacts associated with plant modifications and power uprate projects.
- Familiarity with evaluating changes for potential licensing and regulatory impacts.
- Candidates without Client Nuclear fleet experience may also be considered if they possess strong experience from another commercial nuclear facility.
- Experience supporting another BWR or PWR commercial nuclear power plant.
- Direct involvement in an Extended Power Uprate (EPU), power uprate, or similar plant uprate project.
- Experience in nuclear engineering, systems engineering, operations, design engineering, or licensing.
- Demonstrated understanding of the engineering, operational, design-basis, and/or licensing considerations associated with implementing power uprates.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant commercial nuclear industry experience may be considered.
