Job Description:

Senior Application Developer:

  • The Senior Application Developer is responsible for the design, development, integration, implementation, and support of web-based application software in a full-stack environment.  This team supports The Americas Group (TAG) division’s Paint Stores Group National Accounts / Credit applications. The Systems are primarily focused on Java/Oracle.
  • This highly technical and challenging position will work with the Java Development Sher-link Team on the National Accounts, Credit, and Mobius Repository applications.  Other areas of involvement may include providing web services to corporate and other departments including stores.  Development responsibilities will encompass new logic/features, enhancements, and bug fixes/support. 

Essential Functions:
Strategy & Planning:

  • Acquire and interpret business requirements, create functional specifications, and determine the most efficient/appropriate technologies. 
  • While following department-established standards, influence users in determining the best design to meet project requirements. Responsible for implementing approved architecture design.
  • Design, submit, and review technical and process improvement recommendations as a member of the technical leadership team.

Acquisition & Deployment:

  • Perform complex programming assignments requiring an advanced aptitude of established programming standards, methods, and best practices.
  • Design application and database components for development projects.
  • Perform analysis of business models, logical specifications, and/or customer requirements to design and build Internet solutions utilizing multiple technologies. 
  • Mitigate significant risks associated with projects, which have a high technical complexity and/or involve significant challenges to the business.
  • Understand the business problem being solved and recommend the best solution.

Operational Management:

  • Maintain and modify applications; make approved changes by amending application documentation, developing detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
  • Provide support for critical application problems and issues. Develop proactive measures to ensure the issue is solved and or easily discovered going forward.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the discovery and investigation of critical production problems as required.
  • Collaborate with business domain experts to analyze and assess existing business-critical functions. Recommend improvements to operational processes.
  • Assist the Project Manager in the definition, gathering, development, and documentation of business and/or technical requirements, objectives, deliverables, design specifications and project plans.
  • Participate in requirements gathering and design responsibilities.  Create documentation such as Technical Requirements and High-Level Design documents.
  • Collaborate with other developers, programmers, and designers in conceptualizing and developing of new software programs and applications.
  • Lead or participate in software design reviews.
  • Assist in the diagnosis and correction of system issues and software bugs. Participate in measures to prevent them from happening again.

Incidental Functions:

  • Conduct research into new technologies, including tools, components, and frameworks.
  • Train and knowledge share with development teams.
  • Mentor and coach developers and/or Professional Apprentices.
  • Self-manage project work, tasks, and status reporting as necessary.
  • Make presentations to management, clients, and peer groups as requested.
  • Provide off-hour support for critical application problems and issues. 
  • Analyze the performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with clients and the approval of the supervisor.
  • Assist with other projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
  • Participate in hiring activities fulfilling affirmative action obligations and ensuring compliance with the equal employment opportunity policy.
  • Minimal travel may be required
  • Work outside the standard office 7.5-hour workday may be required.

Required Skills:
Formal Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in a related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Knowledge & Experience
  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Experience working with customers to build and formulate business requirements.
  • 5+ years in Java, ORM/JPA/Hibernate, Web Services, Object-oriented design techniques, and common design patterns.  
  • 3+ years of experience in writing SQL queries and stored procedures to Oracle databases.
  • Experience testing, debugging, and diagnosing software bugs and system issues.
  • Experience in automated testing desired.
  • Microservices experience
  • • Advanced skills in implementing API and Microservices architecture using any of the market-leading solutions
  • • Experience in implementing business critical, high volume, and highly available services is a must.
  • • A strong hands-on development track record building integration and applications utilizing a variety of technologies, development tools, and database systems.

Physical Activities/Capabilities/Work Environment

  • Sit for extended periods of time constantly; walk and stand occasionally.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, and mouse, and to handle other computer components constantly.
  • Lift and transport moderately heavy objects, such as computers, devices, and peripherals occasionally.
  • Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, and training rooms, i.e., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.  
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.  
  • Minimal travel is required
