Title: Chemical Technician - Water Treatment Plant
Location: 31972 Highway 25 Wilsonville, AL 35186 
Duration: 8 Months Contract

Job Description:

  • They will need to come to the site ready to work – meaning fit testing, etc. complete.
  • Hard hat, Safety toe shoes, safety vest, safety glasses or if they wear glasses- side shields, full face respirator and cartridges, and harness for fall protection as needed.
  • At our site, we use 3M Full face 6000 series respirators with cartridges for Ammonia and Organic vapor/acid gas cartridges. We also change cartridges for these as we unload or make/break connections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Candidates must have a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry. 
  • Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis are preferred. Previous work experience in a water treatment plant and knowledge and experience in the production of deionized water are also preferred.
  • Experience and competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment, as well as knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques, are desirable. Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred. 
  • This position requires call-outs and overtime as needed. 
  • Candidates must be available for evening or night shifts, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required. 
  • They must also be able to recognize changes in color for titrations.
  • A chemical technician performs technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant. 
  • These services include water treatment and chemical analysis of water and wastewater, fuels, coal ash, and petroleum products. 
  • The technician provides chemical protection of the steam-generating equipment to minimize outages due to corrosion and deposits in steam cycle components, thereby reducing efficiency loss and the potential need for replacement of steam-generating, condensing, and turbine mechanical components. 
  • Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with governmental environmental regulations regarding water discharges and compiles, evaluates, and reports statistical data pertaining to plant performance and productivity. 
  • Technicians operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of demineralized and service water and assist in maintaining an onsite sewage treatment plant. 
  • They perform analytical testing of boiler water chemistry and scrubber absorber chemistry. 
  • Responsibilities include the calibration and maintenance of equipment related to these areas and performing minor maintenance activities such as lubrication. 
  • Technicians are also required to perform Hazmat team member duties, including respirator qualification, to unload hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.
