Job Description:
- Anticipated Assignment Schedule: Ten-hour days beginning at 6:30 AM Monday - Thursday. Overtime is possible and can be required.
- We are seeking an entry-level Protection & Control Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of protection and control systems used in electrical power substations.
- This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an electrical or industrial maintenance background who is looking to build a career in the utility industry.
Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair protection and control relaying systems and associated equipment.
- Install, program, and maintain protective relays and control devices.
- Perform calibration and testing of protection and control relays.
- Assist with creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
- Support project leads with field assignments and day-to-day activities.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain awareness of current industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- 0–3 years of experience in a Controls Technician, Electrical Technician, or similar role.
- Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical systems and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with electrical equipment and the utility or industrial electrical environment is a plus.
- Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned APC office.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
- 0-3 years experience in a controls technician or similar role.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience with AC and DC systems.
- Successful candidate must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned APC office location.
Work Environment:
- Position supports Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities in electrical substations.
- NERC/CIP access is required.
- PPE is required while working in substation environments.
- Employer will provide a hard hat and approved safety glasses.
- Candidate must provide EH-rated safety boots and wear 100% cotton clothing while in substations.
