Protection & Control Technician (Entry Level)

On-Site role

Job Description:

• Anticipated Assignment Schedule: Ten-hour days beginning at 6:30 AM Monday - Thursday. Overtime is possible and can be required.
• We are seeking an entry-level Protection & Control Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of protection and control systems used in electrical power substations.
• This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an electrical or industrial maintenance background who is looking to build a career in the utility industry.

Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair protection and control relaying systems and associated equipment.
• Install, program, and maintain protective relays and control devices.
• Perform calibration and testing of protection and control relays.
• Assist with creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
• Support project leads with field assignments and day-to-day activities.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Maintain awareness of current industry standards, technologies, and best practices.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
• 0–3 years of experience in a Controls Technician, Electrical Technician, or similar role.
• Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with electrical equipment and the utility or industrial electrical environment is a plus.
• Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned APC office.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
• 0-3 years experience in a controls technician or similar role.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
• Experience with AC and DC systems.
• Successful candidate must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned APC office location.

Work Environment:

• Position supports Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities in electrical substations.
• NERC/CIP access is required.
• PPE is required while working in substation environments.
• Employer will provide a hard hat and approved safety glasses.
• Candidate must provide EH-rated safety boots and wear 100% cotton clothing while in substations.
