Job Description:
- Anticipated Assignment Schedule: Ten hour days beginning at 6:30AM Monday - Thursday. Overtime is possible and can be required.
- We are seeking an entry-level Protection & Control Test Engineer to support the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems used in electrical power substations.
- This position is ideal for recent Electrical Engineering graduates or early-career engineers interested in utility protection systems, substation equipment, and power system controls.
Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying systems and associated equipment.
- Perform testing and calibration of protection and control relays and related devices.
- Install, program, and maintain protective relays and control equipment.
- Assist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
- Support project leads with field assignments and engineering activities.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Electrical Engineering preferred).
- 0–3 years of engineering experience or related experience.
- Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical systems and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with electrical equipment and the utility or industrial electrical environment is a plus.
- Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned APC office.
Work Environment:
- Position supports Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities within electrical substations.
- NERC/CIP access is required.
- PPE is required while working in substation environments.
- Employer will provide a hard hat and approved safety glasses.
- Candidate must provide EH-rated safety boots and wear 100% cotton clothing while working in substations.
High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4 year BS Engineering Degree (Electrical Preferred).
- 0-3 years experience in Engineering or similar role.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience with AC and DC systems.
- Successful candidate must live within a reasonable commute to the assigned APC office location.
